Il Provinciale Monti Sabini, Antica Terra dei Re - 23/04/2022

Federico Quaranta ci accompagna in un viaggio dedicato ai paesaggi e al patrimonio culturale e storico della Sabina, territorio rimasto immutato nei secoli tra borghi, castelli, eremi, foreste e torrenti. Fortemente legato alla storia di Roma, il territorio ai piedi dei Monti Sabini è da secoli usato per la pastorizia, ma è anche abitato da suggestivi borghi e castelli medievali. Apprezzeremo la bellezza del marmo rosa delle cave di Cottanello, utilizzato nella Basilica di San Pietro, percorreremo le mulattiere e i sentieri della transumanza, attraverseremo il bosco che porta all'Eremo di San Michele, e scopriremo la storia del borgo di Montenero Sabino, dominato dal castello medievale Orsini, eretto a difesa del territorio dai barbari e dai saraceni, per concludere il nostro viaggio con le vedute mozzafiato dalla vetta del Monte Tancia, la più alta dei monti Sabini. Federico Quaranta takes us on a journey through the landscapes and cultural and historical heritage of the Sabina area, which has remained unchanged over the centuries, taking us to visit its villages, castles, hermitages, forests and streams. Strongly linked to the history of Ancient Rome, the Sabine Mountains and their surroundings have been sheep breeding land for centuries, but also feature many charming medieval villages and castles. We will appreciate the beauty of the pink marble from the Cottanello quarries, used in St. Peter's Basilica, hike on the mule tracks and livestock migration paths, cross the woods leading to the Hermitage of St. Michael, and discover the history of the village of Montenero Sabino, dominated by the medieval Orsini castle, erected to defend the territory from the barbarians and Saracens, and end our journey with the breathtaking views from the summit of Mount Tancia, the highest of the Sabine Mountains.
